A soft cab enclosure is the fastest way to turn an open UTV into a machine you can actually use in cold weather — typically for $450–$1,500 instead of the $3,000–$5,000 a hard cab costs. If you run a Polaris Ranger, Kawasaki Mule, Can-Am Defender, Honda Pioneer, John Deere Gator, or Kubota RTV, there is almost certainly a made-in-USA soft enclosure that fits it exactly.
We stock full soft cab enclosures from 3 Star Industries and Greene Mountain — both sewn in the USA from marine-grade materials — and we've been fitting them to customers' machines for years. This guide covers how to pick the right one. If you'd rather just talk it through, call us at 800-596-0785 — a real person will pick up.
What does a soft cab enclosure include?
A full soft enclosure wraps your factory roll cage with a vinyl windshield (or attaches around your existing hard windshield), zip-open doors, side panels, and a rear window. Most use marine-grade material with clear vinyl windows, and attach with straps and clamps — no drilling on most models. You can unzip the doors and roll them back in spring, or pull the whole enclosure off in about half an hour.
The one decision that matters: vinyl windshield or hard windshield?
Every full enclosure comes in one of two versions, and this is where most ordering mistakes happen:
- Enclosure with vinyl windshield — the complete wrap, including a clear vinyl front. Best if your machine has no windshield today. One purchase, fully enclosed.
- Enclosure for a hard windshield — doors, top, and rear window that seal around a polycarbonate or glass windshield you already own (or plan to add). Better visibility and wiper compatibility up front.
If you already own a hard windshield, buy the "for hard windshield" version — it's usually $150–$300 less.
Popular fits we stock
Polaris Ranger

The Ranger is the most-enclosed UTV in the country, and we carry versions for nearly every year and body style: the Greene Mountain Full-Size Ranger Full Cab ($457.95), the '15+ Ranger MidSize 570 enclosure ($459.02), and crew-cab versions like the Full-Size Ranger Crew enclosure ($746.85). Older 500/700/800 Rangers are covered by 3 Star's full cab with vinyl windshield ($669.99).
Kawasaki Mule

From the classic Mule 3000/3010 ($459.02) to the modern Mule Pro FXT/DXT full cab ($1,306.36), every generation of Mule — including SX and 600/610 — has a dedicated enclosure. Trans (crew) models use their own longer cabs, so double-check whether your Mule is a Trans before ordering.
Can-Am Defender, Honda Pioneer, Gator & Kubota RTV
The 3 Star Can-Am Defender enclosure with vinyl windshield ($1,039.38) and its hard-windshield version ($882.57) are two of our most popular winter builds. Pioneer owners have the Pioneer 1000 full cab ($776.29), and John Deere Gator and Kubota RTV owners are covered across HPX/XUV, 550/560/590, RTV 400–1140, and RTV-X models. Soft enclosure vs. hard cab: honest trade-offs
| Factor | Soft enclosure | Hard cab |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $450–$1,600 | $3,000–$5,000+ |
| Install | 30–90 minutes, basic tools | Half a day or more, often two people |
| Removal for summer | Easy — unzip or remove | Impractical |
| Noise/sealing | Good; some flap at speed | Best |
| Pairs with a cab heater | Yes — very effective | Yes |
For plowing snow, feeding livestock, or winter trail riding, a soft enclosure plus a cab heater gets you 90% of a hard cab's comfort at a fraction of the price. That combo — enclosure, heater, and a plow — is the classic Minnesota winter build we set up constantly.
Frequently asked questions
Will a soft enclosure fit my exact year and model?
Enclosures are sewn per body style, not one-size-fits-all. Each product page lists the exact years and trims it fits. Not sure which body style you have? Call 800-596-0785 with your year, make, and model and we'll confirm before you order.
Can I run a heater inside a soft enclosure?
Yes — that's the most common pairing we sell. A coolant-fed cab heater inside a sealed soft enclosure will keep a UTV cab comfortable well below zero.
How do I keep the clear vinyl windows from getting cloudy?
Never dry-wipe them — rinse dust off with water first, then use a vinyl window cleaner and a soft cloth. Store the enclosure out of the sun in the off-season.
Do soft enclosures ship free?
Most of what we sell ships free to the lower 48 — each product page shows its shipping terms.
Winter is closer than it looks. Enclosures sell through fastest in October–November. Order early, or call 800-596-0785 and a real person in the USA will match the right enclosure to your machine.
